Meet The Team!
Sue Paxton – Charity Manager
As a founding Parent Carer it has been an absolute pleasure to see the difference our work now makes to the lives of disabled young people and their families in Mendip. I came up with the idea and led the steering group from 2011 to 2013 when we opened our first club and have been a Volunteer Chair and Lead until Autumn 2017. My daughter was 10 years old when the idea of a Youth Club first started, it seemed like such a huge thing to open a Youth Club for children with additional needs, now we’re running 3 and lots of other things besides! None of this would be possible if it weren’t for the super, amazing team who support us, everyone is passionate about The Pod and ensuring its success.
Azeema – Pod Youth Club Leader
I’m Azeema, Lead worker at Pod Youth Club and I also work at Pod Plus. I am a qualified youth worker with over 30 years’ experience of working in the field. My work has included all areas of youth work and I have had considerable experience of working with young people with additional needs. I have been in Frome for eleven years and also currently run the charity “Young People Frome” who put on activities and events for families in the town. I love working for Pod and really like being around the young people who attend.
Jane – Zone Leader
My name is Jane and I lead the young carers zone youth group, I have worked in roles in education and youth work for over ten years because I love working with young people! The Zone group are truly amazing, they are a lovely bunch and make our sessions fun and inspiring. We’ve tried all sorts from roller skating to sushi making with lots of baking and craft in-between. A great group to join and enjoy some space to relax, take time off and have fun.
Alyson – Pod Plus Leader
Hi, I’m Alyson and I work as part of the POD+ team. When I’m not doing that I work as part of the Shared Earth co-op. We run a Forest School on the land at Vallis Veg. We also run The Monday Club and Selgrow which both support people in learning about Horticulture and how to grow their own food. Before joining POD+ and SELco I was a secondary school teacher specialising in Design & Technology. I loved being a teacher but after more than 20 years I felt it was time for a change. These days I gave the best of both worlds I still have a rewarding job where I get to work with a range of young people but it’s a lot more fun!
Annie – Youth Worker
I have been a Youth Worker for The Pod for four years and feel very privileged to be part of such a unique organisation. My background is in education, with around twenty years experience in secondary and primary schools as both a teacher and a learning support assistant. I currently work 1:1 with a student during the day. The Pod gives young people the chance to socialise and be themselves in a safe and fun environment. And I love working there with the fantastic young people and a great team of staff and volunteers.fun!

I am a teaching assistant specialising in Autism and Aspergers and deliver Literacy interventions which I absolutely enjoy. I have been cover lead of the Young Carers group and Youth Club and when POD opened POD Plus in November 2017 I was extremely lucky to be able to work there to. I love Pokémon Go and all things Disney!!
Kevin – Youth Worker
It’s been an amazing experience working for POD. Since being given the opportunity to join the fantastic team in September 2015 I’ve learnt loads, and it’s been great seeing the young people develop and grow as individuals.
Josie – Youth Support Worker
I graduated from university in 2016 with a First in Geography. Having realised that restoring rivers just wasn’t as fulfilling as I imagined I am now back working with people. I am enthusiastic, reliable and work well with all manner of people. I love working with everyone at the Zone it is rewarding and very enjoyable.
